Plagiarist Zakaria Gets a Slap on the Wrist
There are two things a writer never does, plagiarize and fabricate the truth. There is a difference between the two. Plagiarism is when someone who calls themselves a writer steals from another writer without using his or her own words and a fabricator lies and calls it the truth. Fabricators make up things like quotes and so-called facts while a plagiarizer simply steals someone else’s content without citing their sources.
Another journalist got caught plagiarizing and instead of getting fired like Jonah Lehrer did when he fabricated the truth, this journalist got suspended for a month from his column. This is it! Fareed Zakaria, a columnist for The Time’s was caught red handed plagiarizing in his column and he gets suspended instead of fired. Yes, he apologized but when it comes to being a big time journalist, columnist or just a professional writer period, there is no excuse for plagiarism. Period!
So why does Jonah Lehrer get fired for fabricating the truth in his book and another big time columnist for The Time’s of all newspapers get a slap on the wrist that basically says, “Bad boy! Don’t do it again!” This doesn’t make any sense at all! When you plagiarize, you are stealing and you should do the time for the crime.
