Starbuck Filmmakers Getting Sued Over Supposed Plagiarism
A french publisher has retained a lawyer to sue the filmmakers of the Canadian movie “Starbuck” over supposed plagiarism. This is because the film has the same storyline as the Frenchman’s book “Spermatofolie.”
The story of both the movie and the book consists of a man finding out he has fathered more than 100 children because of artificial insemination. The Frenchman’s lawyer has sent letters to both the filmmakers and the writer and producer stating he is suing them on behalf of the French author of the book that has been supposedly plagiarized by this Canadian movie.
The movie “Starbuck” has received $3.5 million in Canada alone and is now going to get made over in the U.S which the U.S version will star Vince Vaughn and Chris Pratt. Now, however the Canadian filmmakers are being sued for alleged plagiarism, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The producer of this movie has told the French press that the filmmakers of the movie have never heard of the book and came up with the idea of the movie on their own. However, the Frenchman authors lawyer says he is not going to let this slide and is pursuing the lawsuit against the filmmakers.
