School Principal Changes Byron High SchoolPlagiarism Policy
The principal of Byron High School has recently made a change to the no plagiarism policy for the new
school year. The old handbook policy brought plagiarism, cheating, stealing and gambling together
in the same group. Now the policy splits the four into two groups with plagiarism and cheating in one
group and stealing and gambling in another group.
This new policy states that no student should cheat or plagiarize another students work or help another
student cheat or plagiarize their work. He announced the change to the student handbook policy for the
new school year on August 20th. The change brings on a better understanding of plagiarism because it
is now in a different group than gambling and stealing. Although it is the same as stealing.
The new policy is one sentence longer than the old one but hopefully the change will make students
understand that plagiarism is a different subject altogether and will have consequences if it is acted
upon.
The principal of Byron High School also stated that he found a great definition of plagiarism online but
couldn’t use it because it would be plagiarism. The board members laughed at his joke.
Will this new policy that came into place on August 20th help keep the plagiarism away? One can only
hope this will make them realize there will be serious consequences if they do not do their own work.
